B.V. Olguín’s RED LEATHER GLOVES, a collection of boxing poems, now has a new video. Filmed at a boxing gym in black and white, this video by Ray Santisteban captures the gritty world amateur boxers endure hoping to get a shot at a big fight or a spot on the Olympic team.

This video explores how B.V. Olguín as a young Mexican/American, Chicano male survived the brutality of the boxing ring. These boxing poems do not glamorize boxing; instead RED LEATHER GLOVES is a meditation on survival. The poems are honest, sensitive and meditative. Olguín’s poems expose the ugliness of fighting and the pain rendered through an act of violence to others. In the end, RED LEATHER GLOVES is less about boxing and more about our own humanity.

RED LEATHER GLOVES is available as a trade paperback or as an ebook. You can purchase it here.
