Had the opportunity to see a staged reading of Charlene A. Donaghy’s The Quadroon and the Dove at The Players Club in New York on January 12, 2017. The play was fantastic and the actors were marvelous. The play takes place in New Orleans in 1841. The playwright Charlene Donaghy takes advantage of the New Orleans setting by weaving spoken French and Cajun into the play. Although the play is about the peculiar custom of Plaçage, it is more about group of four women and two men struggling within the confines of the social rules of their time. A must see. Another staged reading is scheduled at The Players Club on January 24th at 7pm.
The Quadroon and the Dove is part of a collection of plays written by Charlene Donaghy entitled Bones of Home and Other Plays (2015).
