Gregg Barrios Honored by University of Texas, San Antonio, for Hispanic Heritage Month

Cover of LA CAUSAGregg Barrios and his poetry are to be honored by the University of Texas, San Antonio on October 5, 2011 at 7pm as part of their celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month. The event, entitled “A Fusion of Poetry, Performance and Art,” features the poetry of Gregg Barrios and his latest collection of poems, LA CAUSA, a chronicle of the changes made in the aftermath of the Chicano Mexican American civil rights movement. Gregg Barrios’ poetry will be read and performed by a number of notable guests: Sandra Cisneros, John Phillip Santos, Ben Olguín, Norma Cantú, Anthony Flores and Brad Milne. There will be a reception preceding the event and a book signing following it. More information can be found at the event web site.

A companion exhibit entitled “The New Latino Generation Exhibit,” curated by Arturo Almedia, features works of art from the University of Texas, San Antonio art collection. The exhibit features favorite artists of Gregg Barrios such as Rolando Briseño, Kathy Vargas, Vincent Valdez, César Martínez, Armando Sanchez, Franco Mondini-Ruiz, Carmen Lomas Garza, and Patsy Valdez. The exhibit runs from September 29-November 5, 2011 in Gallery 23 at the University Center and is viewable the evening of the October 5th event honoring Gregg Barrios.
