Madeleine Sherwood (1922-2016): A Tennessee Williams Stage and Film Star

Film historian John DiLeo sent me a link today to a NY Times piece on Madeleine Sherwood where he is briefly quoted. I became familiar with Sherwood’s acting in the films of Tennessee Williams while John DiLeo was writing Tennessee Williams and Company: His Essential Screen Actors (2010). He devoted an entire chapter to Madeleine Sherwood and her roles as Mae Pollitt in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (1958) and Miss Lucy in Sweet Bird of Youth (1962). After the book was published, Madeleine reached out to John to let him know that she was deeply touched to be remembered. Yes, Madeleine, we remember you—fondly!
